The best ChatGPT plugins for developers in October 2026 are **GitHub** and **Linear** for code and issues, **Sentry** for production errors, **Vercel**, **Supabase** and **Cloudflare** for deploying and running apps, **Stripe** for payments, **Figma** for design-to-code, **Codex Security** and **CodeRabbit** for review, plus two MCP servers that every coding agent benefits from: **Context7** for current docs and **Playwright** for browser testing. All of them work in Codex, and most also work in ChatGPT, because both products share one Plugin Directory.

Below is what each one does, what it bundles, and when to pick it.

## How we picked

We looked at the developer listings in our [plugin](/plugins) and [MCP](/mcp) directories and favoured:

- **Official publishers.** Every pick is built by the company behind the product or by OpenAI, except where noted.
- **Plugins that bundle skills with the connection.** A plugin that includes workflows (how to triage CI, how to write a migration) tends to be more useful than a bare connection.
- **Clear scope.** Tools you can limit to read-only or to one project score higher.

We have not run benchmarks. These are recommendations based on what each listing contains, as of October 4, 2026.

## The list at a glance

To install plugins, see [How to install plugins in ChatGPT](/tutorials/install-plugins-in-chatgpt) or [Use plugins in Codex](/tutorials/use-plugins-in-codex). In the Codex CLI, `/plugins` opens the plugin browser. For the two MCP servers, see [Add an MCP server to ChatGPT](/tutorials/add-mcp-server-to-chatgpt).

## 1. GitHub

The GitHub plugin, built and maintained by OpenAI, combines a GitHub connection with a CLI workflow for inspecting repositories, triaging pull requests and issues, debugging CI and publishing changes. It is a good default for "why is CI failing on my branch?" or "triage the open PRs on this repo." OpenAI notes that its first-party GitHub app is required for some features, including Codex.

If you want more control over exactly which tools are exposed, GitHub's own [MCP server](/mcp/github) lets you enable toolsets selectively.

## 2. Linear

Linear's official plugin searches, creates and updates issues, projects and initiatives, and can draft PRDs and project updates. Use it to turn a bug found in a coding session into a ticket, or to ask what is in your team's current cycle. It is backed by Linear's hosted MCP server, which also offers a read-only endpoint if you only want lookups.

## 3. Sentry

There are two ways to bring Sentry in. The **plugin** is built by OpenAI and wraps a Sentry skill for inspecting recent issues and events, which is handy for "which errors spiked after the last release?" The **[Sentry MCP server](/mcp/sentry)**, run by Sentry at `mcp.sentry.dev`, uses OAuth, can be scoped to an organization or project, and searches issues, events and traces. If you want both the workflow and Sentry's full tool set, use the two together.

## 4. Vercel

Vercel's plugin is one of the largest in the catalog. It bundles skills for Next.js, the AI SDK, AI Gateway, deployments and CI/CD, environment variables, functions, storage, firewall, feature flags and Turborepo, plus the Vercel app connection. Ask it to audit a repo for deployment risks, explain a failing build or roll back a deploy.

> **plugin:** [Vercel](https://chatgptplugins.directory/plugins/vercel): Build and deploy web apps and agents
## 5. Supabase

The Supabase plugin combines the Supabase app (run SQL, design schemas, deploy edge functions, configure auth, read logs) with skills for Supabase and Postgres best practices. A useful prompt: "Review my Supabase schema and RLS policies for security issues." For tighter control in Codex, Supabase's [MCP server](/mcp/supabase) supports read-only mode and project scoping through URL parameters.

> **plugin:** [Supabase](https://chatgptplugins.directory/plugins/supabase): Manage and query databases
## 6. Stripe

Stripe's plugin pairs the Stripe app (customers, products, prices, payment links, subscriptions, invoices, refunds and disputes) with skills such as Stripe best practices, docs search and upgrade guidance. It is useful both for building an integration and for checking account data. Because it can act on real money, connect a test-mode account while you develop and review every write. Stripe's [MCP server](/mcp/stripe) requires human confirmation for sensitive writes such as refunds.

> **plugin:** [Stripe](https://chatgptplugins.directory/plugins/stripe): Accept payments. Grow revenue.
## 7. Figma

Figma's plugin bundles the Figma connection with Figma's own skills for design-to-code, Code Connect templates, design system generation, FigJam and more. Point it at a frame and ask Codex to implement it, or generate Code Connect mappings for your component library. We use Figma to explain how plugins, apps and MCP servers differ in [this explainer](/blog/plugins-vs-apps-vs-mcp-servers-vs-skills).

## 8. Cloudflare

Cloudflare's plugin includes curated skills for Workers, Wrangler, Durable Objects, the Agents SDK, the Sandbox SDK and building MCP servers, plus the official Cloudflare API MCP server. It helps with "which Cloudflare product fits this?" and with deploying a Worker. If you only need documentation lookups, the separate [Cloudflare Docs MCP server](/mcp/cloudflare-docs) needs no authentication.

## 9. Codex Security

OpenAI's Codex Security plugin runs security scans, diff scans and deep scans, builds threat models, triages findings, proposes and verifies fixes, and writes up vulnerabilities. Run a diff scan on a branch before you open a PR. At DevDay 2026 OpenAI added Codex Security Cloud, which scans connected GitHub repositories through a plugin; it is in research preview ([DevDay notes](/blog/devday-2026-what-it-means-for-plugin-builders)).

> **plugin:** [Codex Security](https://chatgptplugins.directory/plugins/codex-security): Security scanning for your codebase
## 10. CodeRabbit

CodeRabbit's plugin ships a review skill that runs on your current or staged changes: "Review this branch before I open a PR." It is lighter than a full security scan and useful as a second pass on everyday changes.

> **plugin:** [CodeRabbit](https://chatgptplugins.directory/plugins/coderabbit): Run AI-powered code review for your current changes
## 11. Context7 (MCP server)

Coding agents often reach for APIs that changed two versions ago. Context7, from Upstash, serves current, version-specific documentation and examples for thousands of libraries. It runs as a hosted server at `mcp.context7.com` or a local npm package, and uses a Context7 API key. OpenAI's own Codex MCP docs use it as an example: `codex mcp add context7 -- npx -y @upstash/context7-mcp`.

> **MCP server:** [Context7](https://chatgptplugins.directory/mcp/context7): Pull up-to-date, version-specific library docs into your coding agent
## 12. Playwright (MCP server)

Microsoft's Playwright MCP server lets an agent drive a real browser through accessibility snapshots rather than screenshots: navigate, click, fill forms, read console messages and network requests, across Chromium, Firefox and WebKit. It runs locally (stdio), so use it from Codex or the ChatGPT desktop app, not ChatGPT on the web. Google's [Chrome DevTools MCP server](/mcp/chrome-devtools) is an alternative when you need performance traces and Lighthouse audits.

## Before you connect

Most of these plugins can write: open PRs, change issues, deploy, issue refunds. Start with read-only scopes where the service offers them, keep confirmations on for writes, and connect test or staging accounts first. Our [plugin security checklist](/blog/chatgpt-plugin-security-checklist) goes through each step.
