## About

The AWS Labs AWS API MCP server lets agents execute AWS CLI commands with validation and suggests commands from natural language descriptions. It uses your local AWS credentials/profile, relies on IAM for security, and supports read-only and mutation-consent modes.

## Install

1. **Add the server to Codex**

   Codex CLI:

   ```bash
   codex mcp add aws-api --env AWS_REGION=YOUR_AWS_REGION --env AWS_API_MCP_PROFILE_NAME=YOUR_AWS_API_MCP_PROFILE_NAME --env READ_OPERATIONS_ONLY=YOUR_READ_OPERATIONS_ONLY -- uvx awslabs.aws-api-mcp-server@latest
   ```

   config.toml:

   ```toml
   [mcp_servers.aws-api]
   command = "uvx"
   args = ["awslabs.aws-api-mcp-server@latest"]
   [mcp_servers.aws-api.env]
   AWS_REGION = "YOUR_AWS_REGION"
   AWS_API_MCP_PROFILE_NAME = "YOUR_AWS_API_MCP_PROFILE_NAME"
   READ_OPERATIONS_ONLY = "YOUR_READ_OPERATIONS_ONLY"
   ```

   Agents SDK:

   ```python
   from agents import Agent, Runner
   from agents.mcp import MCPServerStdio
   async with MCPServerStdio(
       name="AWS API",
       params={"command": "uvx", "args": ["awslabs.aws-api-mcp-server@latest"]},
   ) as server:
       agent = Agent(name="Assistant", mcp_servers=[server])
       result = await Runner.run(agent, "List my EC2 instances in us-east-1 with their state")
       print(result.final_output)
   ```
