## About

Datadog's remote MCP server gives AI agents access to logs, metrics, APM traces and spans, monitors, dashboards, incidents, hosts and notebooks. It uses OAuth 2.0 by default (API/app keys also supported), has per-site endpoints, and lets users select toolsets via a query parameter. Users need mcp_read/mcp_write role permissions.

## Install

1. **Connect it in ChatGPT** Turn on Developer mode in ChatGPT (Settings → Security and login), open Plugins, select + and paste https://mcp.datadoghq.com as the MCP server URL, then sign in with OAuth. Add it to a chat from the composer's tools menu.

2. **Or add it to Codex or the API**

   Codex CLI:

   ```bash
   codex mcp add datadog --url https://mcp.datadoghq.com
   codex mcp login datadog
   ```

   config.toml:

   ```toml
   [mcp_servers.datadog]
   url = "https://mcp.datadoghq.com"
   ```

   Responses API:

   ```python
   import os
   from openai import OpenAI
   client = OpenAI()
   response = client.responses.create(
       model="gpt-6-astra",
       tools=[{
           "type": "mcp",
           "server_label": "datadog",
           "server_url": "https://mcp.datadoghq.com",
           "authorization": os.environ["DATADOG_API_KEY"],
           "require_approval": "never",
       }],
       input="Show error logs for the checkout service in the last 30 minutes",
   )
   print(response.output_text)
   ```
