## About

Excalidraw's MCP App server streams hand-drawn diagrams into clients that support MCP Apps, with viewport camera control and interactive fullscreen editing. The recommended setup is the public remote server, which needs no account; it can also be built from source and run locally over stdio.

## Install

1. **Connect it in ChatGPT** Turn on Developer mode in ChatGPT (Settings → Security and login), open Plugins, select + and paste https://mcp.excalidraw.com/mcp as the MCP server URL. Add it to a chat from the composer's tools menu.

2. **Or add it to Codex or the API**

   Codex CLI:

   ```bash
   codex mcp add excalidraw --url https://mcp.excalidraw.com/mcp
   ```

   config.toml:

   ```toml
   [mcp_servers.excalidraw]
   url = "https://mcp.excalidraw.com/mcp"
   ```

   Responses API:

   ```python
   from openai import OpenAI
   client = OpenAI()
   response = client.responses.create(
       model="gpt-6-astra",
       tools=[{
           "type": "mcp",
           "server_label": "excalidraw",
           "server_url": "https://mcp.excalidraw.com/mcp",
           "require_approval": "never",
       }],
       input="Sketch the architecture of a web app with a CDN, API and Postgres",
   )
   print(response.output_text)
   ```

## Example prompts
