## About

A widely used community MCP server that gives AI assistants documentation for thousands of n8n nodes and workflow templates, plus validation tools. With an n8n API URL and key it can also manage workflows and executions on your instance. n8n itself also offers an instance-level MCP server at https://<your-n8n-domain>/mcp-server/http.

## Install

1. **Add the server to Codex**

   Codex CLI:

   ```bash
   codex mcp add n8n --env N8N_API_URL=YOUR_N8N_API_URL --env N8N_API_KEY=YOUR_N8N_API_KEY -- npx n8n-mcp
   ```

   config.toml:

   ```toml
   [mcp_servers.n8n]
   command = "npx"
   args = ["n8n-mcp"]
   [mcp_servers.n8n.env]
   N8N_API_URL = "YOUR_N8N_API_URL"
   N8N_API_KEY = "YOUR_N8N_API_KEY"
   ```

   Agents SDK:

   ```python
   from agents import Agent, Runner
   from agents.mcp import MCPServerStdio
   async with MCPServerStdio(
       name="n8n-MCP (community)",
       params={"command": "npx", "args": ["n8n-mcp"]},
   ) as server:
       agent = Agent(name="Assistant", mcp_servers=[server])
       result = await Runner.run(agent, "Build an n8n workflow that posts new RSS items to Slack")
       print(result.final_output)
   ```
