## About

Vercel's Next.js DevTools MCP server gives coding agents Next.js documentation search, access to a running dev server's errors, logs, routes and page metadata, browser automation for testing, and guided upgrades to Next.js 16. It runs locally via npx and needs no authentication.

## Install

1. **Add the server to Codex**

   Codex CLI:

   ```bash
   codex mcp add nextjs-devtools -- npx -y next-devtools-mcp@latest
   ```

   config.toml:

   ```toml
   [mcp_servers.nextjs-devtools]
   command = "npx"
   args = ["-y", "next-devtools-mcp@latest"]
   ```

   Agents SDK:

   ```python
   from agents import Agent, Runner
   from agents.mcp import MCPServerStdio
   async with MCPServerStdio(
       name="Next.js DevTools",
       params={"command": "npx", "args": ["-y", "next-devtools-mcp@latest"]},
   ) as server:
       agent = Agent(name="Assistant", mcp_servers=[server])
       result = await Runner.run(agent, "What errors is my Next.js dev server showing right now?")
       print(result.final_output)
   ```
