## About

OpenAI hosts a public, read-only MCP server that lets agents search the OpenAI developer docs and pull full page content. It runs remotely over Streamable HTTP with no sign-in required. OpenAI suggests adding it to Codex and pointing to it from AGENTS.md so questions about the OpenAI API, SDKs and Codex are answered from current docs.

## Install

1. **Connect it in ChatGPT** Turn on Developer mode in ChatGPT (Settings → Security and login), open Plugins, select + and paste https://developers.openai.com/mcp as the MCP server URL. Add it to a chat from the composer's tools menu.

2. **Or add it to Codex or the API**

   Codex CLI:

   ```bash
   codex mcp add openai-docs --url https://developers.openai.com/mcp
   ```

   config.toml:

   ```toml

   url = "https://developers.openai.com/mcp"
   ```

   Responses API:
