## About

Slack's official MCP server lets AI clients search messages and channels, read threads and user profiles, send or schedule messages, and create or update canvases. It runs over streamable HTTP with confidential OAuth 2.0 and requires a registered Slack app; partner clients include Claude, Cursor, and Perplexity.

## Install

1. **Connect it in ChatGPT** Turn on Developer mode in ChatGPT (Settings → Security and login), open Plugins, select + and paste https://mcp.slack.com/mcp as the MCP server URL, then sign in with OAuth. Add it to a chat from the composer's tools menu.

2. **Or add it to Codex or the API**

   Codex CLI:

   ```bash
   codex mcp add slack --url https://mcp.slack.com/mcp
   codex mcp login slack
   ```

   config.toml:

   ```toml
   [mcp_servers.slack]
   url = "https://mcp.slack.com/mcp"
   ```

   Responses API:

   ```python
   import os
   from openai import OpenAI
   client = OpenAI()
   response = client.responses.create(
       model="gpt-6-astra",
       tools=[{
           "type": "mcp",
           "server_label": "slack",
           "server_url": "https://mcp.slack.com/mcp",
           "authorization": os.environ["SLACK_API_KEY"],
           "require_approval": "never",
       }],
       input="Summarize what happened in #eng-incidents today",
   )
   print(response.output_text)
   ```
