## About

Upstash's official MCP server lets AI assistants create and manage Upstash Redis databases, run Redis commands, inspect usage and work with QStash and Workflow. It runs locally via npx and authenticates with your Upstash account email and API key passed as arguments.

## Install

1. **Add the server to Codex**

   Codex CLI:

   ```bash
   codex mcp add upstash -- npx -y @upstash/mcp-server@latest --email YOUR_EMAIL --api-key YOUR_API_KEY
   ```

   config.toml:

   ```toml
   [mcp_servers.upstash]
   command = "npx"
   args = ["-y", "@upstash/mcp-server@latest", "--email", "YOUR_EMAIL", "--api-key", "YOUR_API_KEY"]
   ```

   Agents SDK:

   ```python
   from agents import Agent, Runner
   from agents.mcp import MCPServerStdio
   async with MCPServerStdio(
       name="Upstash",
       params={"command": "npx", "args": ["-y", "@upstash/mcp-server@latest", "--email", "YOUR_EMAIL", "--api-key", "YOUR_API_KEY"]},
   ) as server:
       agent = Agent(name="Assistant", mcp_servers=[server])
       result = await Runner.run(agent, "Create a new Redis database in us-east-1 called sessions")
       print(result.final_output)
   ```

## Example prompts

- "Create a new Redis database in us-east-1 called sessions"
- "Show the keys matching user:* in my cache database"
- "How much throughput did my Redis database use this week?"
- "List failed QStash messages from today"
