Music Block

Create sheet music & TAB

Music Block turns music ideas in ChatGPT into playable sheet music and TAB.

Ask for guitar licks, piano voicings, bass lines, drum grooves, melodies, chord progressions, exercises, arrangements, or music theory examples, and Music Block renders them as engraved notation directly in the conversation.

Try prompts like “give me 5 melodic minor licks over B7alt,” “write a walking bass line over a ii–V–I,” “show me jazz piano voicings with smooth voice leading,” or “arrange this melody for string quartet.”

Music Block supports guitar, bass, ukulele, piano and keyboards, drums, strings, brass, woodwinds, saxophones, and voices. Guitar, bass, and ukulele examples include TAB; keyboards use a grand staff; ensembles can contain up to eight parts.

Every example includes playback, so you can hear what you are learning, change the tempo, and mute or solo individual parts. You can also work with alternate tunings, extended-range guitars and basses, swing and shuffle rhythms, tuplets, chord symbols, and common guitar techniques such as bends, slides, hammer-ons, and pull-offs.

Use Music Block for practice, teaching, songwriting, arranging, and exploring music theory with short, original examples created for your conversation.

Skills 4

  • ensemble-arranging

Arrange a melody or progression for a group in Music Block — jazz combo or big band horns, rock, pop or funk band, string quartet, choir, folk ensemble. Use whenever an example has three or more parts, or the user asks for an arrangement, a head, a chart, a section, a band or a choir.

  • human-melodic-phrasing

Compose melodies, licks, riffs, solos, bass lines and vocal lines for Music Block that sound like a musician played them rather than a scale generator. Use whenever composing any melodic line, and when a user says the result sounds robotic, mechanical or boring.

  • instrument-ranges-and-idioms

Write Music Block parts for winds, brass, strings, voices, keyboards and drums that stay in each instrument's comfortable register and respect breath, hand and limb limits. Use when composing any non-fretted part, arranging for an ensemble or choir, or fixing a range warning.

  • playable-fretted-parts

Write guitar, electric guitar, bass and ukulele parts (string/fret "bars" for Music Block) that a human can actually finger at the stated tempo. Use before composing any fretted lick, riff, exercise, bass line or chord voicing, and when fixing a playability warning.

Things to ask

  • “Arrange my chorus (Am F C G) for a jazz sextet — trumpet, tenor sax, trombone, piano, bass, drums — 8 bars, medium swing”
  • “Write an 8-bar funk riff in E minor for guitar, bass and drums with TAB — then we'll build the verse on it”
  • “Build me a 5-day A minor pentatonic practice plan: one short exercise per day, TAB and playback, start with day 1”
