Perplexity's official MCP server provides direct web search plus conversational answers, deep research and reasoning backed by Perplexity's APIs. It is available as a hosted remote server with an API key bearer token or locally via npx.

Connect

  1. 1Connect it in ChatGPT

    Turn on Developer mode in ChatGPT (Settings → Security and login), open Plugins, select + and paste https://api.perplexity.ai/mcp as the MCP server URL. Add it to a chat from the composer's tools menu.

  2. 2Or add it to Codex or the API
    codex mcp add perplexity --url https://api.perplexity.ai/mcp --bearer-token-env-var PERPLEXITY_API_KEY
